CAT convertor MOD IMPORTANT!!
Basically you can gut
out your CAT for various reasons:
1. If u are running at very
high RPMs and want to increase flow at the top end, maybe because of a
tall CAM, which needs a good- breathing Exhaust to perform as it
should with no loss in its expected power band (N/A car,)..
2. If u are a Turbo Charged
Car then u really don't need to have it in i.e.. the better the flow the
better the turbo will perform because of the reduced back flow on to
the turbo impeller. This Back-Pressure causes the impeller
not to
turn as freely as it should because of the Air friction acting against
it. A better exhaust flow from the turbo should also help in the turbo
lag, in most cases .ie. The more easily the impeller can spin without
trouble ,the faster it can spool up freely and reduce lag.
3. Or if the cat u have is
an old one which could make it a very restrictive one if it is clogged
up.
For what ever reasons you
have , you need to replace the O2 sensors into the exhaust. Although
you all may have already done this, some of you or most of you may have
noticed that the check engine light always stays on (some cars, not
all). Well below is a simple solution to stop that light from tripping
falsely. You need to know if something else is wrong with the car . If
the light keeps burning because of the O2 sensor being relocated, you
would never know if something else is is wrong with the car. At
least
with the following solution you will be more than sure that if the light
trips, that it isn't because of a false alarm(O2 Sensor), and it would be
legit, so you can get your engine diagnosed accordingly.
Mod to
prevent the O2 Sensor from tripping the CE light!
The following only has
to be done to the second O2 sensor , which is usually just behind the
CAT
Parts needed (should be
available from Parts Unlimited, in town or TDK supplies in Wildey):
(1) 1-MicroFD Capacitor
(1) 1-MOhm resistor
One Assortment of Heat Shrink Tubing
Remove the second oxygen sensor. Sensor will be located just behind
catalytic converter.
See this
wiring diagram to
better understand connections. Remove protective sheathing from the
oxygen sensor near the middle to expose the four wires (two black, one
blue and one white). Cut the blue and white wire. Do not cut the black
wires, they will not be modified. Install the 1-MOhm resistor inline
on the blue wire. Install the 1-MicroFD capacitor between the white wires
and the harness side of the resistor. Seal all connections with heat
shrink or tape and reinstall sensor. |
